Zoom - Functional Perfume Class: Where Art, Science, and Scent Converge

~ Presented by Carole Addison-Goyne, with a special appearance by Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt

________

This is an invitation into the world of botanical perfume, where scent becomes both an art form and a tool for well-being. Throughout history, aromatic plants have been treasured for their beauty, but also for their ability to lift the spirit and calm the mind. Aromatic plants also deepen our connection to ourselves and the natural world.

In this immersive Zoom class, you will learn the foundational principles of creating well-balanced botanical perfumes while exploring the fascinating intersection of perfumery, aromatherapy, and plant chemistry. Together, we will discover how aromatic compounds shape both the scent and therapeutic qualities of a composition and how perfume can become a meaningful expression of intention, memory, and emotion.

Two registration options are available.

If you choose to register for the Zoom class + The Perfumer's Study Collection, this option includes the collection of 14 oils (along with blending materials). With a retail value of more than $330, the collection allows you to smell alongside the class, participate fully in the blending exercises, and return to the materials again and again as your understanding of scent continues to unfold.

Using a thoughtfully curated selection of botanical essences (including luminous citruses, verdant greens, radiant florals, warm spices, precious woods, and resins) you will explore Bergamot, Green Mandarin, Galbanum, Fresh Ginger, Rosewood, Lavender, Osmanthus, Jasmine, Rose Geranium, Cardamom, Patchouli, Benzoin, Sandalwood, and Elemi. Through guided smelling exercises and hands-on blending, you will learn how these materials interact and how to create compositions that support relaxation and focus, while inspiring joy and emotional balance. Jojoba oil, empty bottles, and scent strips are also included in  The Perfumer's Study Collection.

About the Presenter:

Carole Addison-Goyne, MBA has been working in the fields of aromatherapy, botanical perfumery, and natural products for more than three decades. She met Kurt Schnaubelt early in the emergence of aromatherapy in the United States and apprenticed with him for many years, eventually becoming his protégée. The chemistry training and mentorship she received during those formative years profoundly shaped her understanding of how essential oils function therapeutically, emotionally, and artistically within perfume.

Throughout her career, Carole has woven together influences from botanical perfumery and aromatic traditions in both the United States and France, including certification in Mandy Aftel’s Slow Scent® method, while continuing to develop her own approach to Functional Perfume through decades of work with essential oils, absolutes, distillation, and aromatic education.

Her work in the field distilling essential oils with her husband further deepened her appreciation for the lifecycle of plants before they make their way into the bottle, as well as the many ways aromatic materials have been used throughout history, from medicine and daily well-being to beauty, atmosphere, and ceremony. Fascinated by the intricate olfactory system that connects our physical, emotional, and mental faculties, Carole has specialized in working with essential oils and absolutes as Functional Perfumes, conduits to whole-person well-being. Through her teaching, Carole is devoted to helping others cultivate a deeper relationship with the botanical world and to continuing the ripple effect of knowledge, beauty, and care through aromatic education.
