From the desk of Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt

From our recent update of precious oils I would like to introduce a specimen we were not able to procure for a few years: Wild Carrot Seed from the plateaux of Provence, specifically Alpes de Haut Provence. So this year we were able to secure a ridiculously small amount. We had the choice of either no oil or the tiny quantity. Given the extraordinary beauty of this distillate we settled for the small quantity. If you are in search of unrivaled perfection please place your order this stellar distillate while there is still supply. (Wild Carrot from Provence #5272)

If you may wonder how other admittedly also very attractive Carrot Seed incarnations compare we can offer another wild harvested Carrot Seed oil from the Mediterranean hillsides of Bosnia (Wild Carrot from Bosnia #272).

Carrot Seed:  Sesquiterpenes to the Rescue

Carrot is a biannual plant that is widespread in Europe, but also common in the east of Canada. It is easily recognized by the purple or white spot in the center of its white flowers. It has been speculated that the spot mimicks a fly or an insect.

Carrot likes the areas around human settlements that are not cultivated. Intuitively the essential oil is full of good health as our childhood memories of carrots and carrot juice suggest. A big part of this nurturing aspect is probably vested in its high content - 65% - of various sesquiterpenes, most importantly carotol.

Carrot Seed is also cultivated for essential oil production. The cultivated oil (#113) is from France and has a chemical compositions quite similar to the wildcrafted. Also the French literature considers the wild and cultivated oil as pretty much of equal therapeutic value.

French Style aromatherapy attributes many valuable physiological properties to Carrot Seed oil. Most importantly it is considered to be a powerful agent to regenerate liver cells and to stimulate circulation. It decongests liver and kidneys, has been credited with a certain efficacy to lower cholesterol and to tonify the nervous system.  Carrot Seed oil is one of Dr. Anne-Marie Giraud-Roberts favorite oils to support Cancer patients suffering from Chemo therapy induced vomiting and nausea (CINV). For more information please see Anne-Marie Giraud-Robert:

Essential Oils to Improve Quality of Life During Cancer Proceedings of the 7th International PIA conference 2009 SanFrancisco)

As cultivated and wild oil have a similar range of therapeutic applications, many users have wondered which one to prefer. Most individuals reported preferring the wild oil for its sheer and exquisite complexity. The fragrance of the wild oil is almost a perfume onto itself. Considering that in French Style aromatherapy the oil is used to ameliorate bouts of hepatitis, eczema, acne and digestive ulcers due to H. Pylori an oil whose composition is an expression of its natural biological surroundings might seem to be more promising.

The certification of the wild Carrot Seed from Provence

The organization and their seal were created in 1982 by a group of artisans living in remote mountain regions of France. Today there are more than180 producers spread across the French mountain ranges and in preserved islets of the plains.

Professionals with the SIMPLES brand comply with very strict specifications regarding the protection of the environment, the preservation of botanical resources, the quality of production and respect for the consumer.
